"An Occasion to Visit My Roots", Copper, Sterling Silver, Antique Glass Doll's Eye, Black Pearl and Steel

When I was first learning to work with metal I worked mostly copper and brass. I also hated to solder because I, like everyone at the beginning, was terrible at it and found any work around connection strategy to avoid solder at all costs! ie; like the series of rivets in this piece. Fast forward to today I now predominantly work in silver and love to solder because after countless hours of practice Ive become quite good at it. Occasionally I venture back to beautiful rich and malleable copper. Copper isn’t easy to work with as it really hates being soldered and the solder doesn’t match the metal so there is a lot of clean up but the results are warm and rewarding. This piece, a hybrid of the Victorian Lover’s Eye and Arts and Crafts Period metalwork is diminutive (for me) and measures 2×1.75” and is suitable for wearing pretty much anywhere from a hat, a blazer lapel to a jean jacket…The piece is mostly 18 gauge copper with a sterling eye bezel and sterling pearl posts which hold the 12 freshwater black pearls. The piece is signed, hallmarked and dated 2024. Complimentary tracked and insured USPS Ground Advantage shipping within the US.
