Conceived and constructed during a recent class I taught in Anaheim, Ca. this piece was the culmination of my three days working with a group of talented and creative smiths. The best part of teaching workshops is working collaboratively alongside the students who have come to work with me and I suspect I get as much, if not more, out of these experiences as they do! This piece is sterling silver, pearl, coral and glass and is built on a simple forged rod as the framework which everything suspends from. The lovely blown glass sphere mimics ancient Roman glass and adds a beautiful color and transparency to the termination of the piece. The brooch is worn using the handmade sterling silver and 18 gauge spring steel mechanism and while the piece does not have a dedicated bale there are a few areas where it can be attached to cord or chain.
